Code of Ethics for RDNs and NDTRs

A professional code of ethics is a set of rules for upholding ethical conduct and practice.

All members of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs) and nutrition and dietetic technicians, registered (NDTRs) must abide by a set of core values: customer focus, integrity, innovation, social responsibility and diversity.

Underpinned by science-based decisions using the best available research and evidence, the primary goal is the protection of the individuals, groups, organizations, communities and populations with whom the practitioner works and interacts.

The Academy/CDR Code of Ethics for the Nutrition and Dietetics Profession (PDF) establishes the principles and ethical standards that underlie the nutrition and dietetics practitioner’s roles and conduct. All individuals to whom the Code applies are referred to as “nutrition and dietetics practitioners.”

Ethics Complaints and Violations

The Disciplinary and Ethics Complaints Policy for the Code of Ethics (PDF) establishes a fair system to deal with complaints about nutrition and dietetics practitioners from peers or the public.
